Tsikhanouskaya about Lukashenko: “Sly, tough, and cruel. Until the last moment I have believed in his humanity”

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya gave an interview to Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon.

According to Tsikhanouskaya, she won about 75% of the vote in the elections. “We rely on the results of an alternative vote,” she said. And Lukashenko has long lost touch with Belarusians, underestimated people, and overestimated himself.

“The protests in Belarus have not died out. Their scenary has changed, their shape has changed, but the protest mood has not gone anywhere. People still come out, fight, and organise themselves. Now it’s a time of partisanship,” Tsikhanouskaya said. In her opinion, protests will resume in spring.

She also commented on the reaction of the West to the situation in Belarus saying that Western countries had been slow to react.

She was asked about her attitude toward Putin. “I judge people by their actions. Him supporting Lukashenko is the equavalent of him supporting the violence against Belarusians,” replied Tsikhanouskaya.

Tsikhanouskaya said that in her opinion Crimea and Donbass belonged to Ukraine. In her opinion, Russia made a mistake by ruining relations between Russians and Ukrainians.

“Despite all the horror that is happening, I understand that I live in historical time. Inwardly, I’m probably ready for anything, be it arrest or any other consequences”.

Pavel Latushka commented on the meeting between Lukashenko and Putin. “The main thing is that they have not said a word about what they decided to the people,” he said

“Let’s just admit one thing. They are deciding the fate of the Belarusian people, but they are not saying a word to the Belarusian people about what they are agreeing on, and what decisions and plans they are making. Once again Lukashenko demonstrates to Belarusians that to him we are slaves, and that to him we are just plebs not worthy sharing his plans and decisions with because he is the ruler of the Belarussian land, the anointed one, who does not have to report anything to anyone,” said Pavel Latushka in his statement.
