The results of the international work of Tsikhanouskaya’s office

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s office reports about the performance of her headquarters, partners, diasporas, human rights defenders and solidarity foundations in the international arena. For more than six months Belarus has been keeping its position in the headlines of the world media, including The Washington Post, Bild, Financial Times, BBC, Al Jazeera.

Lukashenko has become an outcast for the international community. He is not officially recognized as president by more than 30 states. Currently Alexander Lukashenko is the only “head of state” in the world who was subject to personal sanctions of the European Union. The sanctions were imposed on both the president’s administration and the companies associated with him, as well as on 240 officials.

Lukashenko was deprived of hosting the World Ice Hockey Championship and a number of other sporting events, which would have become yet another reason for the repressions.

The UN is considering the creation of a framework to investigate Lukashenko’s crimes. Denmark, Great Britain and Germany are launching a mechanism to document human rights violations in Belarus. Poland, Lithuania and the Czech Republic have opened cases under universal jurisdiction.

Tsikhanouskaya has met with the leaders of nearly 20 states, while Lukashenko has not met with any leader except Putin over the past six months.

A wearisome job: the courts were working on Sunday to put the students in jail

Today, despite it being a day off, the students detained on Friday at the opening session of the League of Student Associations – the new student trade union organization – were tried in court. Four of them were accused of disobeying the law enforcement officers. Uladzislau Kalkou, Sofya Margunova and Stanislau Seniukevich were sentenced to 15 days each, Krystsina Miranenka received 14 days of arrest.

The trial was held on Sunday so that the young people would not be released, since 72 hours would have passed from the moment of their arrest. Both the lawyers and the Belarusian Independent Trade Union will seek to appeal those decisions. All the information will be transferred to international organizations, including the International Labor Organization.

And this is not the first case of the authorities’ and executive bodies’ misconduct.

Lots of political prisoners do not receive letters and parcels from their friends, relatives and other caring people.

Natallia Hershe, a Swiss citizen, imprisoned for 2.5 years for turning a balaclava off a riot police officer, has already started her second hunger strike. The relatives of a convicted woman were not informed about her transfer to another city, as is required by law, neither does she receive any letters. And that was the reason why Natallia refused to eat since February 22.

Another prisoner – Ihar Bantser, a rock musician from Hrodna – has been on a dry hunger strike for four days, since he considers his case to be politically motivated. He is accused of hooliganism, as he was dancing naked in front of a police car on the night of 5 September. For that he is now facing up to three years in prison.

“There is no justice” – said the poster of the defendant Ihar Bantser on the first day of the trial.

Rallies in support of courageous Belarusian women, many of whom are currently in jail, took place in many European cities.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya appealed to the international community to express solidarity with the women and support Belarus. Today she joined a rally in Geneva.

Mass actions took place in several Polish cities, such as Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Bialystok, Sopot and Gdynia.

The Belarusians in Kiev marched with a large white-red-white flag and were later joined by Lviv.

Several actions took place in Norway, Austria, the Czech Republic and France.

Belarusian emigrants in Dresden were signing postcards at a rally dedicated to Belarusian women. They also helped the Germans to sign and translate the postcards for political prisoners in Belarus.

The Belarusians of St. Petersburg have been taking the streets for 211 days in a row. They wish strength to women, whose children died at the protests. Today the Belarusians of Moscow came up to the Embassy of Belarus and took part in an action of solidarity.

At least 141 politically motivated criminal cases have been initiated against women since the start of the Belarusian election campaign in August 2020. 38 women, including several journalists and human rights defenders, were recognized as political prisoners. 49 women are now in prison or under house arrest.
